1 - What is Model Context Protocol (MCP)?
Model Context Protocol (MCP) is a standard that allows AI tools such as ChatGPT or Claude to securely connect with external applications like Localo.
It creates a controlled connection between AI and your Localo account, allowing the AI assistant to access selected information based on the permissions you grant.
MCP defines:
what data can be accessed
which actions are allowed
how the connection stays secure
Thanks to MCP, Localo data can be used directly inside AI conversations.
MCP is designed for conversational work with AI assistants, such as analyzing Localo data, asking questions, and combining Localo data with other context.
2 - How to use Localo data with MCP
MCP allows AI assistants to work directly with data available in Localo.
After connecting Localo with ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, or another MCP-compatible AI tool, you can use AI to:
analyze keyword rankings
compare Google Business Profile visibility with competitors
review SEO performance trends
generate summaries and reports
speed up repetitive SEO analysis tasks
Instead of manually checking different sections of Localo, you can work directly from an AI chat using your Localo data.
3 - What MCP can and cannot do?
AI assistants can analyze and compare Localo data based on the access you grant them.
Some actions are intentionally restricted. For example, editing your Google Business Profile, publishing posts, or replying to reviews must still be done directly in the Localo app.
4 - MCP or API: which one should you use?
💡Use MCP when you want to work with Localo through AI. Use the API when you want to automate Localo with software.
4.1 Use MCP when you want to work with Localo through an AI assistant
MCP is designed for conversational work with AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, or Gemini.
You can use it to:
ask questions about your Localo data
analyze rankings and visibility
compare locations or competitors
create summaries
combine Localo data with additional context available to the AI
4.2 Use the API when you want to automate a process
The API is designed for automated integrations that run without you having to interact with an AI assistant each time.
For example, you can use it to:
generate recurring reports automatically
create your own PDF reports
integrate Localo with an internal CRM or agency tool
automate Research Mode and sales workflows
store Localo data and use it in your own reporting system

5 - Before connecting Localo to an AI tool

Below, we show how to connect Localo using Claude and ChatGPT as examples.
The setup is similar in other AI tools that support MCP.
6 - How to control AI access with custom roles
When connecting Localo to an AI tool through MCP, you choose which workspace and sections the assistant can access.
You can also create a custom role to limit its permissions. For example, Claude can have read-only access to statistics without accessing other sections of Localo.
How does it work?
Connect Localo to Claude, ChatGPT, or another MCP-compatible tool
You'll be redirected to Localo to select a workspace and configure permissions
Choose an existing role or create a custom role
Confirm access and return automatically to your AI tool
You can create and manage Personal Roles directly in Localo to customize or update the AI assistant's access permissions at any time, without having to reconnect the AI tool.
💡 Custom roles control access to Localo data but don't enable restricted actions, such as publishing posts or replying to Google reviews.
