General aspects and how to seek information.
Local SEO is a technique to improve the visibility of a business in search engine results for users searching for products or services in a specific location, "local intent".
What is local SEO?
Local SEO is an optimisation and marketing effort to increase a company's visibility in the results of local search engines and maps, especially Google. This includes both the optimisation of the website and the company's profile on Google Business Profile.
Key factors of local performance
Local positions are influenced by three primary factors:
Distance The proximity of your business to the searcher's location often plays a significant role in ranking. A business that is closer to the searcher can outperform others in visibility, even if their profile is not fully optimized.
Relevance A strong match between the search query and your business information (e.g., category, name, or description) increases your visibility. Searchers are more likely to find you if your business details align closely with what they are looking for.
Prominence Businesses with strong reputation signals, such as high-quality reviews, frequent brand mentions, and positive offline reputation, gain better visibility. This factor remains important even in locations with low competition.
Addressing Common Misconceptions
Many businesses believe their competitors' strong visibility stems solely from optimizing their Google Business Profiles, but other influential factors include proximity to searchers, alignment with search terms, and operating in low-competition areas.
