What You’ll Learn From This Article:

  • How to connect client profiles and set up keyword

  • How to audit and optimize for local search

  • How to track rankings and competitors

  • How to report results and manage reviews

  • How to use advanced tools to scale your workflow

Step 1: Connect Your First Google Business Profile

To begin, connect at least one client’s Google Business Profile to Localo. You can do this by simply connecting your email address - Localo will automatically detect all GBPs where you’ve been granted manager or admin access.

This unlocks automatic access to:

  • Ranking and visibility tracking for relevant keywords

  • Business Profile health audits and optimization suggestions

  • Review management and publishing tools

Use Workspaces with Subaccounts to organize each client or location separately without cluttering your main dashboard.

Step 2: Set Up Your Keywords

Keywords are the foundation of all tracking, automation, and insights within Localo. Once your Google Business Profile is connected, the next critical step is to define which keywords matter most for your client’s business.

Start with:

  • Services offered (e.g. emergency plumber, dog grooming near me)

  • Local modifiers (e.g. in Austin, Downtown Chicago)

  • Branded terms if applicable

Keywords power:

  • Daily tracking in the Position Map Localo measures visibility at multiple location points, allowing you to tailor strategies to improve rankings in specific areas.

  • Smart Tasks triggered by changes or competitor movements

  • Insights and suggestions across Localo’s features

Step 3: Run an Audit and Build Your Action Plan

Before you start making changes to a client’s Google Business Profile, run an Audit. It gives you a clear starting point: what is already working, what needs improvement, and which actions should come first.

You’ll find Audit near the bottom of the left-side menu in the Localo app.

The audit analyzes key Google Business Profile optimization areas, including:

  • Business name, description, categories, and profile completeness

  • Reviews, photos, posts, offers, and other profile activity signals

  • Important optimization opportunities and missing elements

  • How selected profile elements compare with relevant local competitors

Instead of working through a generic checklist, you receive an overall Audit Score from 0 to 100% and clear recommendations organized by priority:

  • Red - high-priority issues to address first

  • Orange - areas that need attention

  • Green - elements that are already in good shape

The Audit is not just a one-time report. It helps you follow a simple workflow: diagnose → prioritize → act → re-check → show progress. This makes it easier to build a transparent plan for the client and demonstrate completed optimization work before ranking improvements are fully visible.

Step 4: Monitor Local Rankings and Competitors

Visit the Position Map and Competitor Activity Tracking to benchmark your clients’ local performance. Localo provides detailed insights into how well your business is performing in local search results by measuring visibility for specific keywords across a defined area. This helps identify areas for improvement and track progress over time.

These tools allow you to:

  • View keyword rankings in Maps and local pack results

  • Track competitor visibility in the same location and category Localo automatically reviews competitor visibility for the same keywords you are tracking, providing a comprehensive view of the competitive landscape in real-time.

  • Focus on keywords that drive traffic and conversions

Both branded and non-branded terms can be tracked. Rankings update daily for consistent, real-time insights. It’s important to note that ranking positions on Google can vary significantly depending on the specific location point where the search originates. Localo measures visibility at multiple points within the area, offering a granular view of your local search performance.

Step 5: Set Up Reporting That Proves ROI

Use Growth Statistics and Audit Reports to show measurable SEO impact. Reports include:

  • Profile views and user actions (calls, directions)

  • Keyword movement across tracked terms

  • Review volume and sentiment trends

Reports are visually clear and client-friendly. You can download them or share a live link with your client.

Step 6: Activate Review Management

The Review Manager enables you to:

  • Track new reviews across all connected profiles

  • Sort reviews by sentiment

  • Respond using smart templates or manually

  • Monitor response times and rating trends

You can also generate a branded QR Poster to collect more customer reviews on-site or via email.

Step 7: Explore Advanced Tools

For high-scale operations or advanced strategy, Localo offers:

  • Bulk Content Publishing – Schedule updates across multiple profiles

  • Area Difficulty Analysis – Find untapped zones with lower SEO competition

  • Citations Manager – Audit and track business listings across directories

  • AI Agent – Get data-backed keyword and content suggestions instantly

These features support client growth while keeping your operations lean and efficient.
